Confession: I don’t eat a lot of nutritional bars but when I heard about barre I couldn’t help but be curious and excited to try it. I loved it so much that I wanted to share it with my Vegan Presence subscribers and it was featured in the October package! I’m not a professional dancer but I do lead a busy lifestyle rushing from one place to the next. I do take a lot of dance and yoga classes each week and I can tell you that I take barre with me whether it be to a class or to work. My husband is into nutritional bars and he loves barre too!

I love the story of how Barre was born. What follows is a bit about their history. Barre was created by two professional Pittsburgh ballet dancers interested in health and nutrition. Most dancers, particularly ballet dancers are known for their strong and graceful physique. Their bodies are their instruments and they are mindful about what they consume. A professional dancer’s lifestyle  is typically long hours in the studio and on the road. They are touring and always on the go. Barre is the perfect on the go food that you could easily slip into your dancers’s bag, to give you that burst of energy and nutrition you need without having to reach for the convenience of junk food.

According to Julia and Aaron they created a real food bar, made with wholesome, all-natural ingredients (that you can actually pronounce) to maintain the peak level of performance necessary for ballet’s unique marriage of artistry and athleticism.  When creating Barre, Julia addressed the needs of a dancer: it had to fuel one without weighing a dancer down, it had to be sustaining yet easy to digest with the proper mix of nutrients, it had to contain only the finest all-natural whole foods, and, of course, it had to taste sublime. I love making lists and think I can put a check mark on all those things!

Julia is a foodie so naturally she knew how to make Barre delicious. Aaron has the business background who is described as an energy bar connoisseur. The two used their unique strengths to develop and bring Barre to the market. They first began making large batches of Barre in their kitchen and sold them to the students attending the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School.  It was so successful that Barre is now available to everyone! It was originally created by and for dancers and athletes and but now ANYONE that cares about fitness or just wants a delicious, healthy nutritious, real food bar can enjoy it too.

Barre comes in three flavors and I love their names :

ballerina spirulina (for all you coconut lovers):  It contains coconut flakes and spirulina for a macaroon-like taste and texture.

pirouette cinnamon pecan (for you nut lovers): The classic pairing of cinnamon and nuts inspired by crumb cake!

black swan chocolate berry (for chocolate fiends): Black swan chocolate berry is my personal favorite and the one featured in Vegan Presence. This chewy delicious barre owes it complex chocolate flavor with fruity notes to a rich nutty blend with cocoa and cranberries. Absolutely divine!

Consume these without guilt because they’re good for you, all vegan, gluten-free and high in Omega-3s with no refined sugar! Wow! And yes, it tastes delicious!

Another noteworthy achievement of Barre is that they give back to the community by supporting the arts. Barre donates a portion of its proceeds to arts education programs.

Be sure to use code veganbarre for 20% off your order only through the rest of October so hurry and stock up!
